Some say the City is an independent state. Not so! The truth is stranger than that!! The photograph is of a tree in Bishopsgate that has artificial birdsong playing from the speakers.
The City is a mock religion rather like Kek. It has a magic stone, Gog and Magog and a fantastic profusion of temples churches and halls.
It is run on the principles of voluntarism.
The City is only 1.1 square miles and yet has huge influence both upon Whitehall and Parliament. Also the media to a great extent.
The City runs a series of colonies such as Epping Forrest, parts of Southwark and Shoreditch which are not officially part of the City at all.
Any Commonwealth citizen may become a Freeman of the City. There is no residential requirement but it will require both time and money.
