I remember the arrival of Black Friday in the UK. It appeared suddenly and universally. Had some Illuminati-like group of marketeers had plotted the whole thing in secret?
Logically speaking Black Friday should not exist. It has no historical significance to us and is economically destructive. A rational use of discounts would be to spread demand evenly through the year. This does the opposite.
Three years on and the term has bedded itself in the national psyche. Christmas now stretches from late November to the January Sales. God help us all.
