Virtue Signals.

Virtue Signalling is the science of appearing to do good while doing nothing. It is the product of a narcissist culture and political correctness combined and has given charity a bad name. Maybe there is another way?

  • I have bought myself some high-quality poppy badges (as opposed to the self-destructing paper ones) and intend to wear them all year. Poppy day is the only virtue signalling open to those not on the left and so I will turn it into a year-round opportunity. Make sure you buy from the British Legon (they are on Amazon) so that veterans get there cut.
  • Project RED  is a charity that combats HIV in a somewhat self-satisfied way.  It is headed by the insufferable Bono but despite this is worth supporting. There are various companies that offer goods in a particular shade of red and give (unspecified) donations to the cause. By buying these goods we may raise money for a cause that is worthwhile despite the hype. I have an iPhone case from Apple that cost exactly the same as any other colour making it, in theory, a free way to donate. When my phone finally dies I will buy a Project RED replacement in the same blood red colour.

  • I have also taken a supporting membership of Minds. This gets me a blue tick badge on my account for virtue signalling purposes and helps maintain free speech at the same time.
  • I shop at Waitrose (usually an expensive choice) whenever I can. I support them because they stand up to bullying pressure groups such as Stop Funding Hate who are upset they stock the Daily Mail. In addition, they treat their staff well and have good policies on animal welfare.
