In London, porridge has become both fashionable and very complicated. We do not need to follow.

A cheap and healthy breakfast.
Porridge is a thrifty breakfast and good for us too. It lowers cholesterol and stabilises blood sugar as well as keeping us full for longer (helping with weight loss along the way).

It need not be boring. Sweeten with jam, honey, fruit, nuts or anything you fancy. It takes a little longer to make than cornflakes (but not much longer) and there is some washing up but these are minor problems.
